ABOUT PLEASANT VILLAGE COMMUNITY GARDEN

Pleasant Village Community Garden is an oasis in East Harlem, Hudson Valley in Manhattan. Founded by the late Rose Gardella, who flower-bombed the vacant lots in the early 1970s, PVCG is today a thriving community garden that is in imminent danger of losing a large section of its public land to a developer for $1. This is public land that was turned over to NYC Housing Preservation & Development when Bennie Lee, the caretaker of this land, passed away and the taxes went unpaid. The gardeners are devastated over the impending loss of this land that houses chickens, a large community compost bin, a growing plot for donating food and a native pollinator plant field.
